North and South Twin Sisters Peaks (11,428′, 11,376′, and 11,413′)

Part of Front Range Scrambles!

(6/1/2012: NOTE – TRIP IS FULL!) Hike trail to saddle between east and west summits of North Twin Sister. Ascend east summit of the North Twin. Hike/scramble south to a saddle, then up South Twin Sister. Retrace route to east summit of North Twin. Then ascend west summit of North Twin and return to trailhead. Must in good physical shape for hard hiking; second peak requiring scrambling optional. This is an exploratory trip for the leader. Starting from 4th of July Rd. in Indian Peaks, ascend Skywalker Couloir to South Arapahoe Peak 13,397. Moderate to steep snow climb. Previous snow experience required. Trail Running – No Runner Left Behind

6 to 8 Miles
We will meet at 5:30pm at the gravel lot at the North East corner of 93 and Eldorado Springs Drive. Run down the Marshall Mesa Trail towards the Cowdrey Draw Trail. To the end of Cowdrey Draw, at 66th Ave. it’s 2 miles. If we like, we can continue down the Mayhoffer-Single Tree trail to Coal Creek Drive, for another 1.8 miles extension. Expect to run for at least 1 hour, with a potential for up to 2 (depending upon how far we want to go!). Trail is mellow, with gradual changes in elevation. No runner left behind!

From Buckingham/Fourth of July Campground, hike to Fourth of July mine. Head north to saddle at 11,900′, then explore a long scrambling route NW to the South Arapaho summit, then further on to the North Arapaho summit. Longer sections of 3rd class climbing required, with a short section of moderate 4th class out to the North summit. Must be in good physical shape for hard hiking. Exploration Backpack and Rock Climbing

Backpack into Lost Creek Wilderness. Summit Bison Peak, with the intent of rock climbing in vicinity. A possible bonus: McCurdy Mtn. Bison Peak is known for it’s wild rock formations cresting treeline and spectacular views. Prepare for the exploration and adventure! Climbing harness, belay device, helmet, rock shoes will be required along with backpacking gear. Participants will divvy up group climbing gear, so we will share the load. Experience rock climbing a must: Basic Rock School grads welcome! We will leave Denver at 1pm on Saturday, from Mammoth Lot in Morrison. Drive to Ute Creek TH. Hike up to forrested plateau, at ~11,300 ft, after ~3.7 miles of steep ascent, and set up camp. Next day, we will summit Bison Peak and explore Rock Climbing possibilities in the area. After climbing, we will break camp and hike out. We will eat dinner on way back to Denver, arriving late at night!

Work your way up a series of cracks and chimneys to a high angle slab which will lead you to the summit of this classic Redgarden favorite. Participants must bring harness, helmet, nut cleaning tool, rock shoes, and chalk (optional) in addition to 10 essentials. Basic Rock School, or equivalent experience. Experience removing trad gear is required. Be prepared for adventure and big exposure! Hike to the crag is ~45 minutes of steep stair stepping. No Runner Left Behind
Will either run the Flatirons Vista North/South Loop (7.2 miles) or Spring Brook North/South Loop (6.8 miles). May extend or cut mileage depending upon energy, time, and weather. All abilities welcome. If there’s bad weather or trail conditions, we will hike instead. Trail head parking lot on the south side of Eldorado Springs Drive. Meet at 5:30pm.
