The Outings Committee would like to introduce Robert O’Rourke as a new C/D Hike Leader in the Boulder Group. Robert joined the CMC in 2003 to learn more about safety in climbing and mountaineering. Robert also wanted to meet people who shared his mountaineering interests.

As a CMC member, Robert has taken the Basic Rock School, Rock Leading School, Intermediate Snow School, and Advanced Mountaineering School. More recently, however, his interest has gravitated toward snow climbs. Robert has been an assistant instructor in the Advanced Mountaineering School and with several of the Snow Schools.

Robert’s outdoor interests include low to medium angle climbing, mountaineering, and skiing. In particular, Robert enjoys alpine rock, snow couloir, and glaciated peak climbs, as well as backcountry AT skiing. He likes climbing fourteeners, especially when he can climb by way of a snow route, such as the Cross Couloir on Mount of the Holy Cross.

Robert works as an Electronic Engineer in high frequency communications. Outside of mountaineering, Robert enjoys philosophy and transpersonal psychology. He shares the little known fact that he first started climbing in the mid-1980s in Oregon, as a member of the Mazamas. Robert has climbed Mount Hood, Mount Adams, and Mount Rainier.

The Outings Committee welcomes Robert. We thank him for the energy and experience that he brings to the team of C/D Hike Leaders.
